Bloemcool Drip Wyn 2023 is a rare, single-barrel Shiraz made from a tiny “heart” fraction of the wine. Dense, rich and concentrated, it shows dark fruit, fynbos spice and powerful, dryland tannins.

Tasting Notes
Deep broody black-red in the glass. The nose reveals fynbos spice, black olive tapenade, perfume and dark red fruit. The palate is dense and rich with concentrated dark fruit, more spice and long, dry Swartland tannins. Elegant yet powerful, with 3–5 years of ageing potential.

The Bloemcool Drip Wyn 2023 is one of the most unusual wines in the Bloemcool collection. The style takes inspiration from the “drip method” used in perfume, where only the purest heart fraction is kept. After the free-run wine drained away, the team collected less than 10% of the total volume the tiny droplets that fell overnight from the Shiraz skins. This fraction carries incredible extract and offers the truest expression of the grape.
All grapes were hand-sorted and fermented in oak foudres with daily punch-downs during peak fermentation. Once the free-run and press juice moved out, the team left the cellar for the night. By morning, only 500 litres had dripped from the skins just enough to fill one barrel. This fraction completed malolactic fermentation in barrel and matured for 18 months in second-fill French oak. Only a single barrel was bottled.
The wine is dark, intense and deeply concentrated. Herbal fynbos spice, black olives, perfume and dark red fruit shape the nose. The palate is rich and structured with classic Swartland tannins that remain long and dry. It still keeps elegance, showing the purity expected from Fairview wines and the bold character of South African Shiraz.
