More details

Fairview Eenzaamheid Shiraz 2018 is part of the Vinotéque Collection, a range that honours exceptional single-vineyard expressions. The grapes come from the historic Eenzaamheid farm in Paarl, first established in 1699 and today owned by Christo Briers-Louw, whose family has farmed the land since 1775. The gravelly, decomposed shale soils allow the vines to thrive without irrigation, giving the wine its natural depth and concentration.

Planted in 1996, the Shiraz vineyard includes two clones, SH1 and SH21, grafted onto Richter 99 rootstock. Unirrigated and deeply rooted in Swartland shale, the vines ripen evenly through strict pruning, canopy control, and careful crop thinning. Harvest took place on 19 February 2018 at 25° Balling, when the fruit reached full phenolic ripeness.

After handpicking, destemming, and sorting, the berries went directly into French oak foudres for fermentation. Gentle punch-downs and pump-overs ensured flavour and colour extraction before basket pressing. The wine completed malolactic fermentation in 25% new French oak barrels, with the rest in second and third fill barrels for balance. After 22 months of maturation, the best barrels were blended and lightly filtered before bottling.
