Extraño 2021 Case of 6 is a bold, full-bodied red blend led by Tempranillo, showing dark fruit, warm spice and firm structure.
Perfect with chargrilled meats, tapas, charcuterie boards or mature cheeses.
Dark burgundy in the glass. The nose shows dark berries with warm spice notes of clove and cinnamon. The palate is full bodied with broody dark fruit, peppery spice and firm Tempranillo tannins. The finish is savoury and dry, giving the wine excellent ageing potential for five to eight years.
Extraño 2021 forms part of the Fairview Regional Revival Range, celebrating Mediterranean grape varieties that thrive in the Cape’s warm climate. This Rioja-inspired blend centres on Tempranillo, supported by Cinsault, Shiraz and Grenache.
The grapes come from Fairview vineyards in Paarl, where these cultivars adapt well to hot, dry conditions. Each component was harvested in late February and early March and fermented separately in open-top French oak foudres. Daily punch-downs helped extract colour and flavour before the wine was basket pressed.
The individual wines matured in French and American oak barrels for 23 months, with a portion of new oak used for the Tempranillo. The components were then carefully selected and blended to create a wine with depth, structure and complexity.
The result is a powerful yet balanced South African red wine with layers of dark fruit, spice and savoury character. This case of six is ideal for cellaring or enjoying alongside hearty meals.
