Fairview Beacon Shiraz 2023 comes from a 28-year-old dryland vineyard planted in 1995 on deep Glenrosa soils in the Swartland. The rocky, north-westerly facing site encourages early, even ripening without vine stress. The Dreyer family, now farming into its seventh generation, manages the bush vines carefully. Low yields, green cropping at 80% veraison, and detailed vineyard monitoring ensure concentration and balance.
The team harvested the grapes on 9 February 2023 at 24.2° Balling. They handpicked the fruit into small lug boxes, destalked and hand sorted it, and removed underripe berries and stalks. Fermentation took place naturally in open French oak foudres with manual punch-downs and pump-overs. After basket pressing, the wine completed malolactic fermentation in French oak, 30% new, and matured for 18 months before final barrel selection. Light filtration preceded bottling.
The result is a structured, deeply layered Shiraz that captures Swartland’s rugged character and offers both immediate appeal and long-term cellaring potential.
