Fairview Caldera 2019 is a handcrafted blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Shiraz, fermented in open-top French oak with partial whole bunches for added spice. Aged for 18 months in seasoned barrels, the final blend was gently assembled to preserve purity, texture, and the vibrant character of its coastal origins.
Bright medium red in the glass, Caldera 2019 opens with alluring aromas of violets, cracked pepper, and wild berries. The palate is fresh and finely textured, with juicy blackcurrant, ripe plum, and hints of clove and allspice. Silky tannins and vibrant acidity carry through to a long, dry finish leaving a lasting impression of spice and finesse.
Fairview Caldera 2019 is a true reflection of coastal terroir, crafted from three carefully selected vineyard sites. The Grenache Noir comes from Fairview’s iconic vine-on-post terraces on Paarl Mountain. The Carignan is sourced from dryland Swartland vines planted in 1981, while the Shiraz grows in the cooler, wind-cooled slopes of Darling. Together, these sites contribute depth, vibrancy, and a distinctive regional character brought together in a seamless, expressive blend that captures the soul of the Cape’s coastal winegrowing.
