Food Pairing

Enjoy with grilled beef or lamb chops served with fennel relish. Paprika-roasted leg of lamb with Mediterranean sides also makes a fitting match.

Tasting Notes

Dense burgundy red in colour, the wine opens with spice, gentle cardamom and black pepper. Red plum and wild berries add generous fruit to the nose. On the palate, upfront red berries meet hints of fynbos. Fresh acidity and grippy tannins create a youthful finish. The wine has an ageing potential of five to eight years.

More details

The story behind Fairview Eenzaamheid Shiraz 2022 begins on a historic Paarl farm. The name Eenzaamheid means “solitude” in Dutch, a fitting name for a farm once considered far removed from Cape Town. Today, the Briers-Louw family continues to farm this remarkable site.

The Shiraz vineyard dates back to 1996. Its unirrigated vines grow in deep, decomposed Swartland shale soils. These soils hold enough moisture to support the vines through Paarl’s hot, dry summers. Careful pruning and crop thinning also help the grapes ripen evenly.

In the cellar, the team hand-sorts the fruit before fermentation in open French oak foudres. They use both punch-downs and pump-overs during fermentation. Next, the wine moves into French oak for malolactic fermentation and maturation. It spends 20 months in barrel, with 25% new oak. Finally, the team selects the barrels that best preserve the wine’s fruit and character.
