Extraño 2021

The Extraño 2021 blend focuses on Tempranillo, supported by Cinsault, Shiraz and Grenache. These vineyards lie on the warm slopes of Paarl Mountain, where Mediterranean conditions help the grapes ripen with dark fruit, spice and firm tannins.

The team picked the grapes in late February and early March. Each parcel was hand-sorted and fermented in open-top French oak foudres. Cinsault and Grenache included 20% whole bunches for lift and red-fruit brightness. After fermentation, the wines were basket-pressed and matured for 23 months in French and American oak, with 20% new barrels reserved for the Tempranillo.

Extraño 2021 is bold and savoury with dark berries, clove, cinnamon and peppery spice. Firm tannins give structure and ageing potential. It’s a powerful, characterful expression of Fairview wines and modern South African Mediterranean-styled blends.
