Fairview Granite Red 2023 is a vibrant and elegant Cape red shaped by decomposed granite soils. Juicy dark fruit, fine tannins and fresh acidity make it a balanced, modern wine with classic Fairview character.
Granite Red pairs beautifully with grilled sirloin, rosemary lamb chops or slow-braised short rib. It also works well with roasted aubergine, mushroom ragù or hearty lentil dishes. Serve slightly cooler than room temperature to keep the fruit bright.
Granite Red 2023 shows a bright ruby colour. The nose opens with dark cherry, cassis and gentle cedar spice. The palate follows with juicy blackcurrant and hints of cocoa. Silky tannins support the fruit, while lively acidity keeps the wine fresh and focused. The result is elegant, structured and beautifully balanced.
The Fairview Granite Red 2023 captures the essence of Fairview wines grown on decomposed granite soils across the Coastal Region. These well-drained vineyard sites help the fruit develop natural purity and vibrant acidity, while moderate yields give the wine depth and structure. It is a true reflection of what makes Paarl one of the standout wine farms in South Africa.
The grapes reached full flavour in February 2023, and the cellar team brought them in at peak ripeness. They destemmed the fruit and guided fermentation in stainless steel, using gentle pump-overs to extract colour and fine tannins without losing freshness. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matured in seasoned French oak and stainless steel, which added harmony and subtle complexity.
