Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright ruby red colour in the glass. The nose reveals classic Bordeaux-style aromas of red berries and plums, with hints of cocoa and French oak spice. The palate is medium bodied, showing ripe red fruit and balanced tannins. A smooth, harmonious finish completes the wine. It will age well for three to five years.

Fairview Merlot 2023 comes from Stellenbosch and dryland Darling vineyards, both influenced by cooling maritime conditions. The vines grow on koffieklip gravel and decomposed granite soils and are trellised on a five-wire extended Perold system. Careful canopy management ensures good sunlight exposure and even ripening.
The team harvested the grapes at 24° Balling during late February and early March 2023. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs. The wine then moved to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and matured for twelve months, using 15% new oak.
A second portion of the wine fermented separately in an open-top wooden vat with extended skin contact. This handcrafted component adds depth and complexity to the final blend. The result is a refined Merlot with structure, balance and ageing potential.
