Tasting Notes
Ruby red in colour with aromas of red berries and ripe plum, followed by hints of cocoa and subtle French oak spice. The palate is medium bodied with fresh red fruit and soft, balanced tannins. A smooth and harmonious finish makes this an easy-drinking Merlot that will age well for three to five years.

Fairview Merlot 2023 comes from vineyards in Stellenbosch and dryland Darling, both influenced by cooling maritime conditions. The vines grow in koffieklip gravel and decomposed granite soils and are trellised on the extended Perold system. Careful canopy management ensures good sunlight exposure and even ripening.
The grapes were harvested at 24° Balling. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs to enhance colour and flavour. The wine then moved to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and matured for 12 months, with 15% new oak adding subtle spice.
A small portion of the wine fermented separately in an open-top wooden vat with extended skin contact. This handcrafted component adds extra depth and complexity to the final blend.
The result is a polished South African red wine with bright fruit, elegant structure and classic Merlot character.
