Fairview OVP Steen 2024 comes from two historic Chenin Blanc vineyards. The first is a Piekenierskloof bush-vine block planted in 1962. The second is a Paarl block on the Eenzaamheid farm planted in 1974. Both sites are dryland farmed and deliver complex fruit with stable acidity and natural balance.
The grapes were picked very early in the morning and arrived cold at the cellar. The team whole-bunch pressed the fruit and settled the free-run juice for two days. Fermentation happened in three vessels: amphora, older French oak barrels, and stainless steel. The wine spent ten months on the lees before the final blend was made.
The final composition includes 21% amphora-fermented Piekenierskloof Chenin, 71% Paarl Chenin aged in older French oak, and 8% stainless-steel fermented wine. This mix highlights the depth, texture, and mineral edge of South Africa’s old-vine Steen, a heritage name for Chenin Blanc.
The result is a layered, expressive white wine that fits beautifully within the fairview wines range.
