Tasting Notes
Dark ruby red in the glass with rich aromas of ripe plum, raisins and prunes. Warm fruitcake spice mixes with subtle oak. The palate shows dark fruit and balanced spice with a touch of tannin for structure and a sweet, smooth finish. Perfect for cold evenings or dessert.

The Fairview Sweet Red 2024 begins with Petite Sirah grapes grown on decomposed granite soils high on the Fairview farm. A small portion of vintage Tempranillo fortified wine adds depth and lifts the Cape Ruby style.
The team handpicked the grapes at 26.5° Balling. They destemmed and crushed the fruit before fermentation. After four to five days of long pump-overs, the wine reached around 6% alcohol. At this point, the team pressed the juice and added pot-stilled brandy spirit to stop fermentation. This kept the wine naturally sweet.
The wine then matured for 10–12 months in older French oak barrels. A small portion of reserve sweet wine that spent seven years in barrel added extra richness and complexity.
Sweet Red 2024 is bold and comforting. Plum, raisins, prunes and fruitcake spice fill the nose and palate. Soft tannin adds structure, while the sweet finish brings warmth. It’s a delicious expression of fairview wines and a standout sweet red wine South Africa has to offer.
