Fairview Tannat 2024

R160.00 Member priceR135.00

The Tannat grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed, then fermented in stainless steel tanks with gentle pump-overs. After extended skin contact to build depth and structure, the wine went into French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and matured there for 16 months before bottling.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, it’s a deep, almost inky red. The nose is rich with ripe black cherries, dark plums, and a dusting of warm spice. On the palate, those dark fruits continue – think spiced plums and red raspberries – wrapped in the firm, grippy tannins that Tannat is known for. Bold and structured, but still elegant, this wine is built to age beautifully over the next 5 to 8 years.

More details

This rare gem of a variety has found its home on the lower slopes of Fairview, where the trellised vines thrive in Koffieklip soils. Planted in 2004, the vineyard benefits from balanced sunlight and soil depth, producing small, intense berries packed with flavour. Tannat is naturally vigorous, so careful canopy management is essential to keep growth in check and ensure ripening stays even and steady. The result is fruit with firm tannins, layered complexity, and a striking sense of place, a true reflection of this unique patch of Paarl terroir.
