The Fine Wine Friday Two Pack celebrates two standout wines from Fairview. Each bottle has its own story, shaped by careful vineyard selection and detailed winemaking.
Cyril Back Shiraz 2023 is Fairview’s flagship wine and a limited release. For this vintage, the team selected the best Shiraz from sites in Darling and Paarl. They then chose only ten barrels for the final wine after 19 months of ageing.
In the glass, Cyril Back shows a bright burgundy colour. Intense dark berries and plums lead the nose, followed by prune and warm spice. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with dark fruit and firm tannins. Although already approachable, it will benefit from five to eight years of careful cellaring.
Meanwhile, Primo Pinotage 2011 represents Fairview’s pursuit of exceptional Pinotage. The fruit comes from a prime vineyard in Agter Paarl. In 2011, the team reduced the crop to one bunch per shoot. This helped build greater flavour and texture in the grapes. The wine then spent 20 months in French and American oak.
Primo Pinotage shows a deep red colour with touches of purple. Intense cherry and perfumed violet aromas meet smoky oak and sweet spice. Ripe plum and spice continue on the palate, supported by a firm structure. The 2011 vintage also received the Absa Vintage Pinotage Award of Excellence.
