Fairview Homtini 2024 is part of Fairview's Regional Revival Range, celebrating family heritage and the pioneering spirit of Charles Back's ancestors.
The name Homtini means "difficult passage" in the Khoi language. It refers to the historic Homtini Pass near Knysna, where Charles Back's Italian ancestors, the Rabbolinis, settled after arriving from Northern Italy. Originally hoping to farm silk, they faced unexpected challenges before establishing themselves in other trades, including winemaking.
This story of determination lives on through a distinctive blend of 36% Sangiovese, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 10% Shiraz and 6% Petit Verdot.
The grapes come mainly from Darling vineyards planted in decomposed granitic soils, with Petit Verdot sourced from Stellenbosch. Each variety contributes something different, creating a wine that balances freshness, richness and structure.
With its elegant character and ageing potential, Homtini is a wonderful companion to slow-roasted lamb, rich tomato-based pasta or mushroom risotto. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and charcuterie.
