Fairview Lanner Hill Syrah 2022 comes from Lanner Hill Farm in Darling, owned and farmed by the Fairview Wines team. The trellised Syrah vines grow in deep red shale and granite soils, while cool afternoon breezes from the Western Coast help the grapes retain freshness and balance. These conditions create a refined, cooler-climate style classic Syrah rather than riper Shiraz.
Harvest took place on 3 March 2022, with grapes picked at 22.5°–23.5° Balling to capture a bright, lively character. The team placed 20% whole-bunch clusters at the bottom of 50hl foudres, layering the destemmed, hand-sorted grapes on top. Fermentation began naturally with indigenous yeast from the vineyard. Gentle punch-downs and pump-overs, done up to three times daily, extracted colour and flavour over ten days before pressing.
After pressing, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in older French oak barrels, where it matured for 18 months. A final barrel selection followed, and the wine was bottled with minimal filtration to preserve purity.
