Food Pairing

Pair it with grilled lamb chops, spiced chicken, mushroom dishes or charcuterie. Its light structure and fine tannins also make it a great choice with tapas and warm, aromatic flavours.

Tasting Notes

The wine shows a bright, light red colour. Aromas of red berries mix with gentle pepper, cardamom and an iron-like spice note. The palate is elegant with fine tannins, good acidity and a light, focused structure that allows the fruit to shine. It will continue to evolve gracefully over the next few years.

More details

The Spice Route Grenache 2015 comes from unirrigated bushvines planted in 2006 on Amoskuil farm in the Swartland. These young vines grow in dryland conditions and already show impressive character, with small berries and concentrated flavour. Even the wild antelope on the farm favour this vineyard, often nibbling on its low bushvine fruit.

The grapes were hand-picked on 25 February 2015 and fermented in open concrete tanks with manual punch-downs. After fermentation, the wine moved into old French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and twelve months of gentle maturation. This approach protects the purity and delicacy of Grenache while adding subtle depth.

The result is a light yet expressive red with bright berry fruit, soft spice and a clean, lifted finish. Its fine tannins and lively acidity give it structure without weight, making it an elegant example of Swartland Grenache and a standout in the Spice Route range, perfect for fans of South African wine and visitors exploring the Cape Winelands.
