More details

The Spice Route Malabar 2006 reflects the winery’s signature style, shaped by the warm hills of the Cape West Coast. The vineyards grow on dryland sites across the Swartland, where unirrigated vines produce small, thick-skinned berries packed with flavour. These conditions deliver the depth and power that define Malabar.

The grapes were harvested in February 2006. The team hand-picked and hand-sorted the fruit before fermentation. Open two-ton oak fermenters allowed extended skin contact, while daily punch-downs built colour and structure. After basket pressing, the wine moved to French oak barriques for malolactic fermentation and eighteen months of ageing, with half the barrels being new.

The final wine is bold, ripe and beautifully layered. Dark fruit, spice and subtle oak come together in a full, rounded palate with smooth yet confident tannins. Malabar stands as one of the strongest examples of Spice Route’s craftsmanship and the expressive style of South African wine from the Swartland.
