Spice Route Pinotage 2024 comes mainly from dryland bush vines planted in Malmesbury in 1997. The grapes ferment in open concrete tanks with regular punch-downs to build colour and flavour. The wine then moves to American oak, including 30% new barrels, for malolactic fermentation and maturation.

Food Pairing

Rich fruit and warm spice make this a natural choice for flavourful food. Pair it with bold, spiced Indian dishes or a well-aged steak.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby red in colour, this Pinotage opens with ripe plum and cherry, followed by a hint of warm caramel from the oak. Concentrated dark and red berry fruit fills the palate, with warm spice adding another layer. Tannins give the wine structure while keeping the palate balanced.

More details

Spice Route Pinotage 2024 reflects the character of dryland vineyards along the Cape’s West Coast. Most of the fruit comes from unirrigated bush vines rooted in Koffieklip soils on the Spice Route farm in Malmesbury. A portion of Darling fruit brings cool-climate freshness to the 2024 vintage.

Careful picking played an important role after a dry winter. Winemaker Charl du Plessis selected the harvest time to find the right balance between ripe fruit and tannin. The result is a modern expression of Pinotage with soft tannins and an approachable palate.
