Tarragon 2024 comes from a Swartland vineyard planted in 1978, now in its 45th year. These trellised vines grow on a south-east slope in koffieklip soils decomposed granite mixed with iron-rich clay. Dryland farming keeps the berries small and concentrated, giving this old vine Chenin its distinctive power.
Harvesting started late on 26 February 2024 at 23.4° balling. The team handpicked the fruit, destemmed the bunches and pressed them gently. After 48 hours of settling in stainless steel, the clear juice moved to 500L French barrels, with 12% new oak. Fermentation took place in barrel, where the wine remained for eight months before bottling.
The result is a layered, expressive Spice Route wine that showcases why Swartland Chenin Blanc remains so special. Aromas of pineapple, stone fruit and pear lead into a full palate with citrus brightness and a dry, pithy edge. Complex yet inviting, it reflects the character of the vineyard and the precision of its winemaking.
